Exhibition and Remembrance

  • Blaine High School Blaine, WA (map)

The Lost At Sea Exhibition is returning to the Investor's home port on May 1, immediately following the annual Blessing of the Fleet Ceremony. All are welcome to attend, and please note that it will be held in the cafeteria at the Blaine High School.

This will be an afternoon event and reception remembering the lives of Mark, Irene, Kimberly and John Coulthurst, Dean Moon, Jerome Keown, Mike Stewart, and Chris Heyman, and who were all tragically killed over Labor Day weekend in 1982 on their boat, the Investor, in Craig, Alaska. Dean and Jerome were also members of the 1981 Blaine High School graduating class.

Brittany Retherford, an independent journalist who has been researching the story for several years, will be giving a presentation and bringing a photo exhibition that honors the memories of the vicitms. The exhibition has traveled to Craig, Sitka, Ketchikan, and Astoria, OR, and will continue traveling to other fishing communities as well.

Brittany will be joined by Jon Broderick and Jay Speakman, two fisherpoets who wrote a sweet song remembering the Investor story and the impact it had on young fishermen in Southeast Alaska. They have volunteered to perform their song at this special event.

If anyone is interested in sharing memories of the victims or ways in which the story impacted their lives, they are encouraged to do so.

Please also bring a dish to share at a community potluck.

If you have any questions, please call or e-mail Brittany at (907) 799-5652 or
